Pumpers

Pumpers

Pumper trucks, also known as pumpers or fire engines, serve as the backbone of any fire department’s emergency vehicle fleet.

These specialized units are designed to handle long hours of pumping at major fire scenes. Investing in a customized pumper that meets the specific needs of your department and community is an invaluable asset for the entire response team.

Pumper trucks are typically the first units dispatched to fire incidents and play a critical role in providing the main water supply at the scene. They supply water to the primary hoses used to extinguish the fire and can also accommodate additional rescue tools.

Our pumpers are equipped with minimum 625 IGPM/800 USGPM pumps, ensuring robust water pumping capabilities. We offer ULC/NFPA-certified warning light systems and scene lighting, with energy-efficient LED technology being the preferred choice. Each unit can be customized to provide ample storage space for miscellaneous equipment, ensuring easy access to essential tools.

Unique Requirements

The body of every Metalfab pumper is constructed using heavy-duty extruded aluminum for durability and strength. This includes a 3″ x 3″ aluminum tube subframe, a minimum of four spring-loaded hold downs to minimize stress on the body, a 3/16″ aluminum plate made with 5052 marine-grade aluminum, and proprietary extrusions specifically designed to enhance body fortification. We also provide Highly Ergonomic Apparatus Technology (HEAT) for panels, further improving usability and ergonomics. Our customization services allow you to collaborate with us to tailor each component of the unit to your department’s specific needs.

For storing suction hoses, you have options such as side mount trays, hosebed-mounted storage tubes, and tubes located in the rear access under the tee of the tank. Additionally, you can choose from standard side mount racks, manual drop-down side mount racks, powered side mount racks, powered over-the-top racks, and/or rear access tubes through the body or tank to store a roof ladder, two section ladders, and an attic ladder.

A custom pumper typically carries between 500 imperial gallons (600 US gallons) to 1,200 imperial gallons (1,440 US gallons) of water. Our pumper trucks feature automatic transmissions, diesel engines, and offer various pump panel configurations including side mount, top mount, and top mount enclosed (TME). You can select a commercial chassis from manufacturers like Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, etc., or opt for a custom chassis from Spartan. Choose from pumps by Hale, Waterous, or Darley, valves by Hale, Elkhart, or Akron, warning light systems by Federal, Whelen, or Code 3, and decide between roll-up or flush mount doors. Compartments are strategically installed on the low, mid, and high sides, maximizing storage options.

Recognizing that every fire department has unique manpower levels, equipment requirements, response areas, and water sources, customization is essential. With Metalfab, you have the flexibility to tailor warning light systems, foam systems, scene lighting, pump types and sizes, storage configurations, body layouts, and more, ensuring the pumper truck is perfectly suited to your team’s needs.
