The majority of firefighters are volunteers and depend on full-time jobs outside of the department to earn their living. This means that the majority of your crew can’t afford to be injured while volunteering to keep the community safe. With Metalfab’s Highly Ergonomic Apparatus Technology (HEAT) series pumpers, the layout of each unit can be tailored to provide the utmost safety for your team. This specialized design is one we highly recommend investing in as an invaluable addition to your fleet of emergency response vehicles.

Fighting fires is dangerous enough as it is. With the HEAT series, we’ve made working off of the truck as safe as possible.

Like other pumpers, HEAT series pumpers are usually the first units dispatched and provide the main water supply at the scene of a fire. These units supply water to the main hoses used to extinguish the fire and may also be used to mount additional rescue tools.

Our HEAT series pumpers are equipped with minimum 625 IGPM/800 USGPM pumps. We offer ULC/NFPA-certified warning light systems and scene lighting, which are both typically LED powered. Each unit can be customized with ample storage space for miscellaneous equipment.

The body of each Metalfab HEAT series pumper is constructed using heavy duty extruded aluminum. This includes the 3″ x 3″ aluminum tube subframe, a minimum of four spring-loaded hold downs (to minimize stress on the body), a 3/16″ aluminum plate made with 5052 marine-grade aluminum, and proprietary extrusions specifically designed to fortify the body. Our customization services enable you to work hand-in-hand with us to tailor each component of the unit to your particular needs.

The compact, safety-focused design of the HEAT series maximizes maneuverability while the separated pump panel design allows for all electronic controls to be protected behind a roll-up door, preventing component failure from being exposed to the elements and road debris.

Side mount trays, hosebed-mounted storage tubes, and tubes in the rear access under the tee of the tank are all options for storing suction hoses. A roof ladder along with two section ladders and an attic ladder can be stored using your choice of standard side mount racks, manual drop-down side mount racks, powered side mount racks, powered over-the-top racks, rear access tubes through the body or tank, and/or rear access tubes under the tank.

Generally, a custom HEAT series pumper carries between 800 imperial gallons (1,000 US gallons) to 1,200 imperial gallons (1,440 US gallons).

Our HEAT series units all have automatic transmissions, diesel engines, a side mount pump panel, a top mount pump panel, a top mount enclosed pump panel (TME), and your choice between a commercial (Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, etc.) or custom chassis (Spartan). You can also choose between Hale or Waterous pumps; Hale, Elkhart, or Akron valves; Federal, Whelen, or Code 3 warning light systems; and roll-up or flush mount doors. Additional options include a pump, roll, and/or hosebed walkway. Compartments are installed on the high side.

Pump panels in the HEAT series are divided into two sections, with discharges and suctions mounted on the exterior. Pump controls are mounted in the front compartment behind the roll-up door.

Because every department varies in levels of manpower, types of equipment, areas of response, and water sources, each department has different customization needs. With Metalfab, you will have the option to tailor warning light systems, foam systems, scene lighting, pump types and sizes, storage, various body configurations, and more to best suit the needs of your team. With the HEAT series, you can also separate pump inlets, outlets, and pump controls to allow the pump operator to be away from the connections; lower speedlays and crosslays to increase ease of packing and enhance safety; add a hosebed walkway, eliminating the need to walk on the hose to access the front of the vehicle body; and/or add ladder storage tubes to keep ladders clean and safe from road dirt.

If you decide that a custom HEAT series pumper is the right choice for your department, Metalfab’s sales team will meet with you to discuss your team’s needs and work in conjunction with our engineering staff to design and deliver a unit that your department will be proud to call its own.
