Having all your equipment readily available and easily accessible is crucial when your department is working at a scene.
That’s why a walk-in rescue with its spacious interior, configured with numerous cabinets and workstations, is a key asset for your team to perform various tasks in the line of duty. When customized to meet your team’s specific needs, walk-in rescues become an invaluable resource for any department.
Walk-in rescues serve as the “mobile toolbox” of the fire department, transporting equipment and manpower to the fire scene. Unlike other units that primarily rely on external compartments for storage, walk-in rescues are designed to provide convenient interior access to smaller tools and equipment while accommodating a larger team at the scene.
While walk-in rescues are generally not designed to carry water like pumper and tanker units, a custom unit can be configured to include this feature if desired. You also have the option to add accommodations for ladders and suction hoses.
Each walk-in rescue unit features an automatic transmission, diesel engine, scene lighting systems, tower lights, generators, and your choice of a commercial chassis (Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, etc.) or a custom chassis (Spartan). You can select warning light systems from Federal, Whelen, or Code 3, choose between roll-up or flush mount doors, and customize seating, tool-mounting, and SCBA storage options. Exterior compartments are installed on the low, mid, and high sides for additional storage.
The body of each Metalfab walk-in rescue is constructed using heavy-duty extruded aluminum. It incorporates a 3″ x 3″ aluminum tube subframe, a minimum of four spring-loaded hold downs to minimize body stress, a 3/16″ aluminum plate made with 5052 marine-grade aluminum, and proprietary extrusions designed to reinforce the body. Our customization services allow you to collaborate closely with us to tailor each component of the unit to your specific needs.
Given that every department has varying levels of manpower, equipment types, response areas, and water sources, customization needs differ. With Metalfab, you have the opportunity to customize warning light systems, scene lighting, storage, seating for manpower, various body configurations, and more, ensuring the unit perfectly suits the needs of your team.
If you determine that a custom walk-in rescue is the right choice for your department, Metalfab’s sales team will meet with you to discuss your needs. We will work in conjunction with our engineering staff to design and deliver a unit that your department will be proud to call its own.
