It’s been called ‘the toughest two minutes in sport’, a grueling showcase of athleticism and skills honed in the line of fire fighting duty. Now, fire fighters from New Brunswick, across Canada, and the United States will have their chance to compete and compare their mettle at the first regional event of the Canadian FireFit Championships to be held in Centreville, NB.
On August 1st and 2nd 2020, male and female fire fighters alike will compete in teams and as individuals in a range of fire-fighting tasks performed in emergency situations, such as donut roll lifts, hydrant runs, hose drags and victim rescues, to be placed in the top tier of their field.
Centreville-based Metalfab LTD is a manufacturer of Fire Apparatus, specializing in custom engineered units including pumpers, tankers, rescues, mini-pumpers, and other fire equipment. They also supply training, technical assistance and other industry-specific support for its customers.
The company has been central to the fire-fighting community in New Brunswick and beyond for many years, doing fundraising, providing an annual scholarship for children of firefighters and organizing many other fire department related events.
“We are honored to be able to partner with the Central Valley Firefighters’ Association to bring this great event to our area,” said Metalfab LTD Business Development Manager, Ryan Stacey, “We are excited to showcase the beautiful Central Valley area to all that travel for this event and to be able to provide an opportunity for our community to view such a great show of skill from our firefighters from both near and far.”
The first ever Canadian National FireFit Competition was held in August 1994 in Vancouver over 15 days where approximately 50,000 spectators attended. This success spurred the addition of 7 more events from coast to coast with more than 105 fire departments participating the following year. Over the past 25 years, the competition has continued to grow and now visits every Province in Canada, is aired on TSN, OLN and RDS and attracts competitors from every Province and Territory in Canada as well as the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, England and the Middle East.
Competitors of all levels, from seasoned veterans to first time rookies amp up their training to compete in this highly demanding event and make their mark, at the same time, connecting with fellow fire fighters from around the country and globe.
For Metalfab LTD, the Atlantic FireFit Regional Championships is a chance to remind their customers that they are a partner that not only manufactures quality Fire Apparatus, but actively supports the firefighting community as a whole.
For the fire fighters however, this event represents an opportunity to showcase the challenging and physically strenuous tasks they undertake daily as part of their incredible commitment to protecting their communities.
The Atlantic FireFit Regional Championships will be free for the public to attend and will be held at the newly built Western Valley Multiplex in Centreville, NB.
