Pumper trucks, pumpers, or fire engines are the workhorse of any fire department’s fleet of emergency vehicles. These are the units that are set up for long hours of pumping at major fire scenes. Investing in a custom unit that meets the unique needs of your department and your community is an invaluable asset for all on the response team as well as investing in a unit to keep your firefighters warm and protected from the elements.
Metalfab’s line of Top Mount Enclosed (TME) come complete with a custom engineered enclosed pump panel compartment. The pump compartment can be configured to hold from 0 to 4 seated firefighters for transportation to the scene. Metalfab has had their TME Crewcab independently tested by CAPE to ensure the unit meets NFPA 1901-16 Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, section 14.3.2, which incorporates by reference the following ECE standard and Society of Automotive Engineers Surface Vehicle Recommended Practice:
1. ECE R29, Protection of Occupants of the Cab of a Commercial Vehicle, August 1999.
2. SAE J2422 Cab Roof Strength Evaluation – Quasi-Static Loading Heavy Trucks, February 2010.
As all of Metalfab’s product line, the Metalfab TME Pumpers can be customized to meet the individual needs and requirements of your fire department.
Pumper trucks are usually the first response units dispatched and provide the main water supply at the scene of a fire. These units supply water to the main hoses used to extinguish the fire. They may also be used to mount additional rescue tools.
Our TME pumpers are equipped with minimum 625 IGPM/800 USGPM pumps. We offer ULC/NFPA-certified warning light systems and scene lighting, which are both typically LED powered. Each unit can be customized with ample storage space for miscellaneous equipment.
The body of each Metalfab pumper is constructed using heavy-duty extruded aluminum. This includes the 3″ x 3″ aluminum tube subframe, a minimum of four spring-loaded hold downs (to minimize stress on the body), a 3/16″ aluminum plate made with 5052 marine-grade aluminum, and proprietary extrusions specifically designed to fortify the body. We also have Highly Ergonomic Apparatus Technology (HEAT) available for panels. Our customization services enable you to work hand-in-hand with us to tailor each component of the unit to your particular needs. Side mount trays, hosebed-mounted storage tubes, and tubes in the rear access under the tee of the tank are all options for storing suction hoses. A roof ladder along with two section ladders and an attic ladder can be stored using your choice of standard side mount racks, manual drop-down side mount racks, powered side mount racks, powered over-the-top racks, and/or rear access tubes through the body or tank.
Generally, a custom pumper carries between 500 imperial gallons (600 US gallons) to 1,200 imperial gallons (1,440 US gallons).
Our pumper trucks all have automatic transmissions, diesel engines, a side mount pump panel, a top mount pump panel, a top mount enclosed pump panel (TME), and your choice between a commercial (Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, etc.) or custom chassis (Spartan). You can also choose between Hale, Waterous, or Darley pumps; Hale, Elkhart, or Akron valves; Federal, Whelen, or Code 3 warning light systems; and roll-up or flush mount doors. Compartments are installed on the low, mid, and high sides.
Because every department varies in levels of manpower, types of equipment, areas of response, and water sources, each department has different customization needs. With Metalfab, you will have the option to tailor warning light systems, foam systems, scene lighting, pump types and sizes, storage, various body configurations, and more to best suit the needs of your team.
If you decide that a custom pumper is the right choice for your department, Metalfab’s sales team will meet with you to discuss your team’s needs and work in conjunction with our engineering staff to design and deliver a unit that your department will be proud to call its own.
