If you’ve worked with us or keep up to date with our posts, you’re likely already aware of the work we at Metalfab do for our communities. Metalfab is a community-oriented company through and through, and we’re always looking for new ways to give back.

One way we give back to the communities we serve is by sponsoring popular sporting events, namely hockey and curling. Of course, if you follow sports, you know the 2024 curling season is upon us, and Metalfab is proud to announce that we were named sponsors for three curling associations here on the East Coast and a competitive women’s curling team from the West Coast this year.

Our sponsorees include the Nova Scotia Firefighters’ Curling Association, the Prince Edward Island Firefighters’ Curling Association, the New Brunswick Firefighters’ Curling Association, and British Columbia’s Team Grandy. We’re going to tell you a little bit about each of them here.

Nova Scotia Firefighters’ Curling Association

The Nova Scotia Firefighters’ Curling Association began competing 1970. Metalfab became a sponsor for our neighboring firefighters’ curling association in 2022 and we continue to hold that title through 2024.

This year, four teams competed in the Nova Scotia Firefighters’ Curling Association annual tournament, which was held from January 12 to January 14 in Truro, Nova Scotia. The winners, for the sixth year in a row, were Team Stevens, comprising Director Mike Hennessy, Lead Dave Richardson, Second Daniel Jessome, Third Dennis Stevens, and Skip Chad Stevens. They will represent Nova Scotia at the national championship this year. This will be the 14th time that Chad, Dennis, and Dave have represented Nova Scotia at the national championships and the sixth time for Daniel.

Prince Edward Island Firefighters’ Curling Association

The Prince Edward Island Firefighters’ Curling Association began competing in 1966 in Saskatoon. However, self-funding made consistent participation in national championships difficult. When it came to our attention that they needed a sponsor in 2022, Metalfab jumped on the opportunity to support our friends across the water, and we have supported them ever since.

This year the Prince Edward Island Firefighters’ Curling Association annual tournament, which was held from January 19 to January 21 in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island. The winners, will represent Prince Edward Island at this year’s national championship.

New Brunswick Firefighters’ Curling Association

The New Brunswick Firefighters’ Curling Association began competing in 1968 in Calgary. Metalfab became a sponsor for our local firefighter’s curling association in 2022. Today, we hold the titles of Gold Level Sponsor, Championship Title Sponsor, and Championship Fire Chief Level Sponsor.

This year, 15 teams competed in the New Brunswick Firefighters’ Curling Association annual tournament, which was held from January 26 to January 28 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The winners, Team Vautour, comprising Lead Vic Cornfield, Second Peter Tait, Third Mike Case, and Skip Joe Vautour from the Saint John Fire Department will represent New Brunswick at this year’s national championship.

British Columbia’s Team Grandy

As of last year, Metalfab also sponsors a competitive women’s curling team based out of British Columbia. The team, named Team Grandy, comprises Coach Katie Witt, Lead Sarah Loken, Second Lindsay Dubue, Third Kayla MacMillan, and Skip Clancy Grady. These amazing women have competed in several events so far this year, including events in the Grand Slam of Curling. Recently, they won the 2024 Mercure Perth Masters Champions in Perth, Scotland, and won the BC provincial championship, held in Esquimalt, British Columbia, from January 23 to January 28.  They will now be representing BC at the National Scotties Curling Championship in Calgary, Alberta.

A Partnership Of Protection: 20 Years Of Community Support

At Metalfab, every purchase you make with us is equivalent to a 20-year partnership of protection: protection for your equipment, protection for your department, and protection for your community. This is our promise to all of our fire chiefs every time we manufacture a custom fire truck with you.

We don’t take this promise lightly. For Metalfab, this 20-year partnership means supporting community initiatives like curling, which work to strengthen your communities, bringing people together while supporting your local firefighters to stay active and healthy both physically and mentally.

If you haven’t purchased a fire truck in the last 15 to 20 years and you want to work with a manufacturer who will dedicate auxiliary time and resources to improving your community as well as the firefighting experience, please reach out to Metalfab’s Business Development Manager, Ryan Stacey, at rastacey@metalfabfiretrucks.com.
